Working with a scissor lift combines the dangers of working with heavy equipment with the dangers of working at height.

The successful participant…
- Knows the safety function of the scissor lift operator
- Knows what a work permit is and can both interpret and comply with it
- Knows the different types of AWP’s and their limitations
- Knows that a scissor lift must be inspected as lifting equipment
- Understands and can use loading diagrams
- Knows the different drives (electric, thermal) and their area of application
- Knows what factors affect the load and stability of the AWP
- Knows how to hoist and tow a device safely
- Knows what checks and operations to perform at the end of work (parking, battery charging, refuelling, etc.)
Knows the following safety regulations:
- Getting in and out safely
- Staying within the working platform
- The maximum platform load
- Dealing safely with electrocution risk
- Dealing with environmental risks (including uneven/unpaved terrain, narrow places, slopes, etc.)
- Carrying of fall protection
- Demarcating the workplace & signalling
- Rules on driving the scissor lift
- Risks of crushing limbs by the scissor lift
- Risks related to the device’s batteries

- Notification requirement & procedure decommissioning

- Can carry out daily inspections (correctly recognise and report dangerous defects)
- Applies the relevant safety rules
- Knows how to operate the emergency fallback system
- Can use all controls correctly
- Can connect and disconnect batteries safely
- Has safe and appropriate driving technique (both forwards and in reverse)
- Works in an orderly and tidy manner
- Can set up the device safely
The successful participant can easily perform the following:
- Drive forward and reverse safely and correctly
- Turn forwards and backwards
- Take forward and reverse turns
- Estimate distance, depth and height
- Pass through narrow passages safely
The successful student(s) has mastered these manoeuvres:
- Driving (at high/low speed)
- Controlled manoeuvring
- Raising the platform to maximum height
- Driving in the highest permissible position
- Extending the extendable deck
- Lowering the platform to its resting position
