Thanks to this course, students gain all the insights they need to work safely with heavy loads.

It looks not only at the theoretical side (such as calculating forces) but also at the practical:
being able to deploy the appropriate equipment in a correct way to strike a load.

The difference between a critical and a non-critical load is made clear so that the student can always act responsibly.

Prevom creates a balanced mix between practice and theory, with an emphasis on the practical reality in which the student will be using the equipment.

The extensive experience of our teachers translates into numerous practical examples, giving each student a good understanding of why one should proceed in a certain way.

Here is an overview of the course’s final attainment levels at the theoretical level.

The successful participant…

• Has a strong understanding of the difference between a critical and non-critical load
• Can fluently list the risks involved in securing and moving a load

The following legal issues are known:

• Applicable applications of the Welfare Act/ARAB/Codex
• Conditions of CE marking, atmospheric conditions, safety function and medical examination
• Conditions relating to inspection of the equipment used

The following discipline techniques are known:

• The basic characteristics (weight, centre of gravity, forces, …)
• The forces and their interaction (angles, method of arrest, number of load-bearing parts, the lifting beam, etc.)
• Some basic load-related concepts (working load, breaking load, working load factor, safety coefficient)
• Material-related concepts and calculations (utilisation factor, angles of attack, load calculation)
• All necessary arm and hand signals

The material is known:

• The different types of material one can use (belts, ropes, hoists, clamps, etc.)
• One knows which equipment can be used where
• Maintenance and control of the equipment is known
• One can correctly interpret the data found on the equipment

The assignments and final attainment levels of the practical training consist of the following:

Practical assignment 1

The student knows how to hook and move a simple structure (e.g. a number of tubes) with an easily determined centre of gravity.
Several points are checked, including the correct use of equipment but also the deployment of safety measures,
signals and PPE.

Practical assignment 2

The student can correctly attach, move and place a machine (fitted with eyebolts) on a foundation.
The points that will be assessed are the same as for the first practical assignment, but because the load looks different, the student should adjust appropriately.

Practical assignment 3

For the final practical assignment, the student is asked to carefully and safely guide a load along a course:
one goes along, over and behind obstacles at different heights. The student must, of course, perform all hand and arm signals correctly and communicate clearly with the operator via radio.
