Basic training forklift

Operating a forklift requires specific skills to ensure safety and efficiency on the shop floor.

Designed for both novice and experienced drivers, the forklift training course provides in-depth knowledge on how to operate a forklift safely and correctly in a familiar environment. During the course, participants learn, among other things, about forklift stability, loading and unloading goods, and correctly assessing risks. This training helps companies comply with legal obligations and increases safety in the workplace.

Frequently asked questions forklift training (FAQ)

The prospective participant must be at least 18 years of age, except if this training is part of vocational training.

The candidate must also have a certificate of medical fitness and be proficient in the language of training.

No, our forklift training courses are exclusively for companies and are organised in-company.

Forklift training is a course that teaches participants how to operate a forklift safely and efficiently. The course includes both theoretical knowledge of safety regulations and practical training in operating a forklift, including loading, unloading, and maneuvering in various work environments.

The training lasts 1 day. There is room for a maximum of 8 experienced or 5 non-experienced participants per session.

During the forklift training you will learn:

  • The basics of forklift operation, such as steering, lifting and lowering loads.
  • Safety rules, such as avoiding accidents and recognising risks in the workplace.
  • Proper loading and unloading of goods.
  • Performing vehicle inspection and daily maintenance of the forklift.
  • Driving techniques in different conditions, such as in tight spaces or on uneven surfaces.
  • Emergency procedures in case of malfunctions or accidents.
  • A basic training course is designed for people with no experience driving a forklift. The course includes both theoretical knowledge and extensive practical training.
  • A refresher course is for experienced drivers with an expired or nearly expired certificate. These courses are shorter and focus on refreshing knowledge and skills, as well as updates in safety regulations.

You will receive a participation certificate from Prevom. This certificate will state that you have successfully completed the forklift driver training course.

If you have lost your attestation, it is best to discuss this with your employer. They can then contact Prevom.

Legislators expect employers to demonstrate that employees are trained and certified competent to drive machinery. The certificate demonstrates this.

Prevom recommends a reassessment of employees’ competences within 5 years of the certificate’s issue date.

The main safety regulations for operating a forklift are:

  • Use the seat belt and make sure you are in the right position while driving.
  • Keep the load low when driving and make sure the load is stable and well positioned.
  • Respect the forklift’s maximum load.
  • Avoid sharp turns at high speeds and drive slowly at intersections or in narrow corridors.
  • Perform regular vehicle checks to ensure the lift truck is in good condition.
  • Ensure clear communication with other employees in the workplace.

If you drive a forklift without a valid certificate, you run the risk of fines or penalties from the Labor Inspectorate. In addition, you put yourself and others at risk because you may not be fully aware of safety regulations. Employers are required to ensure that all forklift operators have a valid attestation.

In the event of a no-show or cancellation by the client, the registration fee or invoice amount remains fully payable. The same applies if the client requests to reschedule the appointment within two weeks prior to the scheduled date. The customer has the right to reschedule the training once at no cost, provided that this request is made at least two weeks before the scheduled date.

If you do not participate in the examination or training, you will not be eligible to receive a certificate/attestation. To obtain a certificate/attestation, you must successfully pass the exam or internal test.

We make every effort to ensure that no examination or training session is ever cancelled by Prevom. However, if cancellation becomes necessary due to exceptional reasons or extreme circumstances, you will be notified by phone or email.

In the event of a cancellation by Prevom, the registration fee will be fully refunded, without any additional compensation beyond the initial amount paid at the time of booking. If, on the day of training, it is determined that the practice cannot be conducted safely, we reserve the right to discontinue the training without refunding the amount due.
