Training BA4 or training BA5 (AREI)
Get your BA4 or BA5 certificate and learn how to work with electricity more safely.
Issuing a BA4 or BA5 certificate is a big responsibility for any employer.
Training that corresponds to the required level (BA4 or BA5 training) is a highly practical way to obtain tangible proof that the participant has the necessary skills.
So this is how your company can issue the certificate with confidence.
BA4 training: alerted person
No experience required
The employee doesn't need to have any electricity-related experience/diploma. Curiosity is enough.
Working safely
Thanks to this training, your employee is sure to have the necessary insights to work safely.
Supervision required
A BA4 employee is only permitted
to carry out electrical work
under the supervision of a BA5 competent person.
What is a BA4 certificate?
A BA4 certificate proves that your employee has the essential basic knowledge and understanding.
With BA4 training – Instructed Person, your employee is permitted to:
- Work on electrical installations (under the supervision of a BA5 Skilled Person).
- Carry out non-electrical work near electrical installations (without supervision).
This BA4 training is ideal for employees who work near electrical installations. (for example, on a construction site, at a customer’s premises or in the workplace) but do not work on electrical installations. The training mainly focuses on providing a fundamental understanding of electricity.
With a BA5 Skilled Person supervising, a BA4-certified employee is permitted to work on electrical installations.
Particular attention is given to the essential knowledge and key concepts required to work safely with electricity and its industrial or residential applications.

BA5 training: qualified person
Basic knowledge required
The employee must have at least a basic knowledge of electricity to participate.
Top for technicians
With a BA5 certificate,
the employee is allowed to work
on electrical installations unsupervised.
Ideal supervisor
With a BA5 supervisor, BA4 employees can also carry out work.
What can I do with a BA5 certificate?
Working safely with electricity as a skilled person, both alone and in a team. A BA5 attestation allows your employee:
- Working on electrical installations (without supervision).
- Carrying out non-electrical work near electrical installations (without supervision).
- Supervising work carried out by or with BA4 employees.
For a BA5 certificate, we naturally need to go into greater depth regarding the technical aspects of electricity.
This ensures that your employee is prepared to work safely with electrical installations as a skilled person, supervisor, or solo technician, while understanding the potential hazards and electrical risks involved.
Working independently wit
a BA5 certificate
According to the applicable legislation, or the General Regulations for Electrical Installations (better known as AREI), only a person with a valid BA5 certificate is permitted to work independently on electrical installations.
In short, this certificate is extremely valuable for any company that wants to deploy its employees flexibly, both independently and as part of a team.

Frequently asked questions BA 4 training and BA5 training (FAQ)
No previous electrical experience or knowledge is required to attend the BA4 training course. Everyone who masters the language can participate.
The BA5 training course does require a solid foundation in electrical knowledge.
Obtaining a BA5 certificate does not automatically grant a BA4 certificate. The BA5 training course is specifically designed for professionals with an electrical background and requires advanced technical knowledge and practical experience. As such, it is not suitable as an introductory course for participants with no prior electrical knowledge.
This can be done in several ways.
Through our online platform, you can explore our open training days and register your employees directly for a specific training opportunity.
Would you like to benefit from the SME e-wallet (KMO-portefeuille)? Please complete the form below instead of registering through our online platform and indicate that you wish to use the SME e-wallet. We will handle the rest of the process for you.
The main difference is the level of experience and the degree of autonomy permitted.
- A BA5-certified person requires significantly more experience than a BA4-certified person.
- A BA4-certified person may never work on an electrical installation without supervision.
- In short, a BA4-certified person may only carry out non-electrical work near an electrical installation without supervision.
- A BA5-certified person may work independently and without supervision and can also supervise electrical work carried out by a BA4-certified person.
A BA4-certified person may work on or near an electrical installation.
However, work on the installation itself may only be carried out under the supervision of a BA5-certified person.
For example, consider the following:
- Painting an electrical switch room.
- Carrying out work or cleaning near electrical outlets and equipment.
- Inspecting a faulty connection on a switch (under supervision).
- Operating a switch in an electrical panel (under supervision).
A BA5-certified person has a much higher degree of autonomy.
They may work independently and without supervision on or near an electrical installation.
A BA5-certified person may also supervise BA4-certified employees, allowing them to carry out work on an electrical installation.
Some examples:
- Inspecting or repairing an electrical installation at a customer’s premises without assistance from a colleague.
- Switching the electricity on or off at a construction site without supervision.
- Performing tasks without supervision: installing electrical outlets, connecting machinery, installing cables, etc.
- Supervising BA4-certified employees when working on an installation – solar panels, batteries, machinery, electrical panels, etc.
If you have no prior electrical knowledge, we recommend taking the BA4 course first. The BA5 course may be too challenging without any prior knowledge. After all, we aim to provide high-quality training, ensuring that the BA5 certificate is not merely a piece of paper to hang on the wall, but a guarantee that you have the practical knowledge required to work safely.
This is definitely possible!
Contact us with some details (the number of participants and the training course you are interested in), and we will check whether there is enough availability on the selected training date to train the entire group in one session.
If desired, we can also spread the group across multiple training sessions.
We would be happy to prepare a quote for training your entire team.
By organising these training courses in groups, Prevom can offer a more affordable and accessible rate.
This also saves you, as an employer, on travel costs and allows the training to be spread over several sessions, ensuring that the majority of your employees can remain at work while a few employees attend the training.
If you would like to organise training for a larger group on a single day, please feel free to contact us for more information.
Under current legislation, external companies (such as Prevom) are not permitted to issue a BA certificate.
In short, the certificate must always be issued by the company employing the employee in question.
Prevom levert na afloop van deze opleiding een certificaat af dat aantoont dat de werknemer deze opleiding heeft afgelegd – dit dient als aanvulling voor het dossier dat intern opgemaakt wordt.
You can contact us by email or phone for more information.
Strictly speaking, training is not a legal obligation; however, Prevom highly recommends it.
Issuing a certificate as an employer involves a significant level of responsibility.
Particularly in the event of an electrical accident.
Through specialised training, employers can ensure that their employees have the required skills to safely work with electricity when performing various tasks on or near an electrical installation.
Prevom operates a fair and transparent policy – so there are no hidden or additional costs. Both professional and private customers always receive a valid VAT invoice.
A BA4 or BA5 certificate must always be issued by the employer. An external training provider is not authorised to issue this certificate.
Essentially, it is the employer who certifies that the employee in question has the required competencies
Prevom is always available to support you in managing the additional administrative requirements related to certification.
