General objective:
To learn how to work safely and efficiently with a truck-mounted crane in the company’s own working environment.
This includes:
- The participant is trained to perform a safety-critical role.
- The participant becomes an efficient materials handler who proactively reports defects and malfunctions.
- The participant learns how to prevent accidents, injuries and damage to both products and the work environment.
- The participant gains an in-depth understanding of the principles of safe dynamic driving.

The training content is always fully compliant with the applicable standards.
Participants who successfully complete the truck-mounted crane operator training course:
- understands the safety role and responsibilities of a truck-mounted crane operator.
- understands what a work permit is and is able to interpret and comply with its requirements correctly.
- understands load charts and is familiar with the operation of the load moment limiter and other overload protection systems.
- is familiar with the different power systems, including PTO (Power Take-Off), electro-hydraulic systems, and internal combustion engines, and understands their respective applications.
- understands the factors that influence the load capacity and stability of both the truck-mounted crane and the vehicle on which it is installed.
- is familiar with lifting accessories, slinging equipment, and other lifting gear used in lifting operations.
- is familiar with the standard hand signals used in lifting and hoisting operations.
- knows how to load a truck safely and how to secure both light and heavy loads properly to prevent load shifting or cargo loss during transport.
- knows how to identify, assess, analyse, and manage the risks associated with their own equipment and working environment.
- is familiar with the basic legislation applicable to truck-mounted crane operators, including ARAB, the Codex on Well-being at Work, liabilities and responsibilities, as well as the mandatory inspections of cranes, lifting accessories, and slinging equipment.
The following safety procedures are understood:
- Never move or position a load above people.
- Taking electrical circuits into account when working at height.
- Maintaining a minimum safe distance from high-voltage power lines.
- Risks associated with insufficient minimum clearance height.
- Potential risks associated with excavation works and when operating near slopes, embankments, or inclined ground surfaces.
- Hazards related to the entrapment or crushing of the operator or co-workers.
- The potential risks associated with falls while mounting or dismounting the vehicle.
- Risks arising from uneven or unpaved ground conditions and from unstable or hollow subsoil when deploying outriggers or positioning the vehicle.
- Risks arising from traffic and vehicle movements in the vicinity of the work area.
- Hazards arising from handling unsecured or unbundled loads.
- Risks associated with unauthorised use of the crane.

Knows which personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn:
Safety shoes, safety gloves, clothing suitable for adverse weather conditions, a high-visibility vest when working near traffic, a safety helmet, etc.

Grapples, pallet forks, clamps, loading buckets, lifting hooks, earth augers and lifting accessories.
Understands lifting accessories and related equipment:
Chains, lifting slings and wire rope slings as lifting accessories, as well as lifting rings, shackles, D-shackles and edge protectors as additional equipment. Participants can store these items correctly on the truck and use them appropriately to carry out a safe lift, including determining the load weight, identifying the centre of gravity and selecting the correct lifting angle and configuration.
Understands the pre-operation inspection:
- Checks the condition of wear plates, axles, bushes and hoses.
- Checks the hydraulic oil level.
- Checks the system for leaks.
- Checks that the accessories are correctly connected and in a safe condition.
- Checks and carries out lubrication of the equipment as required.
- Verifies the proper condition of the stabilisers and their associated locking mechanisms.
- Adjustment of the hydraulic movements.
- Maintains order and cleanliness at the operator’s position.
Participants are also familiar with the traffic regulations applicable when using the truck-mounted crane on public roads.

- is able to move the truck-mounted crane from its transport position without placing excessive stress or load on the securing system or the truck cab. `
- knows how to attach light and heavy loads safely using the appropriate lifting accessories and slinging equipment, and understands how to minimise and prevent load swing during lifting operations.
- is able to apply standard lifting and hoisting hand signals correctly in practical situations.
- works in a neat, organised, and orderly manner.
A participant who successfully completes the training can smoothly perform the following manoeuvres with the truck-mounted crane:
- Lifting a load from the ground using the truck-mounted crane.
- Placing pallets side by side at both the front and rear of the loading area.
- Placing pallets in a controlled and gentle manner using a pallet hook, with a maximum clearance of 20 cm.
- Correctly and safely stacking loads at ground level.
- Lifting a long load from the ground using lifting accessories and then placing it in the loading area in a confined space, with a maximum clearance of 40 cm.
- Turning a load without sudden or unstable movements of the truck-mounted crane.
- Accurately assessing distances and depths.
- Returning the truck-mounted crane to a safe transport position.
As the truck-mounted crane training and examination take place at your company, the customer is expected to provide the necessary equipment.
For this training, this means a well-maintained and inspected truck equipped with a truck-mounted crane.
This way, no equipment needs to be transported to the training location, no deposit is required, and participants immediately learn how to operate the specific type of truck-mounted crane used by their employer safely.
The location for this training must always be provided by the customer.
This offers several advantages, particularly allowing participants to learn how to operate the truck-mounted crane efficiently in their own working environment.
This not only means fewer nerves thanks to familiar surroundings, but also improved practical insight!
The training lasts 1 day. There is room for a maximum of 8 experienced or 5 non-experienced participants per session.
The exam has two parts: practical and theoretical.
The theoretical exam takes about 30 minutes.
The practical exam takes a minimum of 30 minutes.
Each participant who passes both exams will receive a certificate. This certificate is valid for 5 years. After this period of 5 years, it is the employer’s responsibility to schedule a new training or refresher course. After this training, the participant can be re-certified.
If a participant does not pass, the company’s representative will be contacted and, in consultation with the company, a solution will be sought.
You will receive a certificate of participation from Prevom. This certificate will state that you have successfully completed the training.
The legislator expects employers to ensure that employees are demonstrably trained and authorised to drive machinery. In addition, this training also provides an opportunity to sharpen your competences.
Prevom recommends a reassessment of employees’ competences within 5 years of the certificate’s issue date.

In the event of a no-show or cancellation by the client, the registration fee or invoice amount remains fully payable. The same applies when the customer requests a change of the appointment date within the two-week period preceding the scheduled appointment. The customer is entitled to reschedule the training once at no additional cost, provided that the request is submitted at least two weeks before the scheduled date.
If you do not participate in the examination or training, you will not be eligible to receive a certificate/attestation. To obtain a certificate/attestation, you must of course pass the examination/internal test.
We make every effort to ensure that no examination or training session is ever cancelled by Prevom. However, if cancellation becomes necessary due to exceptional reasons or extreme circumstances, you will be notified by phone or email.
In the event of a cancellation by Prevom, the registration fee will be fully refunded, without any additional compensation beyond the initial amount paid at the time of booking.
If, on the day of training, it is determined that the practice cannot be conducted safely, we reserve the right to discontinue the training without refunding the amount due.
